SMBC Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation ( SMBC ) has appointed Joy Kwek as managing director, head of capital markets and solutions, Asia-Pacific, effective immediately.
In this newly created role, Kwek will lead the strategic alignment of SMBC and SMBC Nikko Securities across the region, driving the delivery of integrated, client-centric financing solutions. Her appointment underscores the bank’s commitment to strengthening its capital markets and structured solutions franchise in Asia-Pacific.
Based in Singapore, she will report to Carsten Stoehr, deputy head of Asia-Pacific, SMBC, and Hironori Hattori, president of SMBC Nikko Securities ( Hong Kong ), as well as the global heads of debt capital markets and solutions at SMBC Nikko.
With over two decades of banking experience, Kwek joins SMBC from Morgan Stanley, where she was managing director and head of APAC strategic advisory solutions. She previously held senior leadership roles at Credit Suisse, including as director and head of APAC private asset group and Greater China strategic advisory.
