Citi has appointed Prashant Thakker as head of Asia South corporate bank, effective immediately.
Thakker will oversee business strategy, financial performance, talent development, and execution for the Asia South corporate bank across local corporate, financial institution, public sector, and global network banking businesses.
Citi’s Asia South markets comprise India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Thakker will report to Jason Rekate and John Chirico, global co-heads of corporate banking, and Amol Gupte, head of Asia South cluster.
With an 18-year career at Citi, Thakker brings a strong blend of business insight and strategic experience built across key leadership roles, according to an internal memo announcing his appointment.
As head of capital management, he drove steady gains in ROTCE ( return on tangible common equity ) and balance sheet efficiency across clusters. Earlier in his career, he led diversified industrials coverage and corporate finance in Shanghai, where he strengthened client dialogue and helped drive sustained revenue growth for the China corporate bank.
Thakker joined Citi in 2007 as a banker in India and moved to Hong Kong in 2013. He currently heads capital management for Japan, Asia North and Australia ( JANA ), and Asia South and will relocate to Singapore in due course.
